This is a fictional skirmish set during the Battle of Hurtgen Forest that occurred during November and December 1944.

Although this is a small map, it is so highly detailed and carefully crafted that I believe it comparable to Relic's own professionally-made maps. I started building the map more than three years ago, inspired by the Operation Market Garden map "Best".

Although this is a small map, it is so highly detailed and carefully crafted that I believe it comparable to Relic's own professionally-made maps. I started building the map more than three years ago, inspired by the Operation Market Garden map "Best".

Hurtgen Forest has 11 capturable territory sectors with 5 being munitions and 2 fuel. The limited fuel makes the map mostly geared toward infantry combat. A stream divides the map in half forming a natural defensive line for each player. However, a single road that runs the length of the map does cross the stream, and the stream is passable at every point. Each territory sector (except the roads) has some existing defensive structures: a church, bunkers, trenches, or mere sandbags. There are a lot of trees on this map--it is a forest after-all.

This map also features a realistic passage of time, starting with a foggy morning and progressing through midday, sunset, and night. The map was primarily designed to be played with the Annihilate victory condition but does support Capture Points. Because the AI is slow to start and the map is rather small, using an AI difficulty one level higher than your usual level is also recommended.

This app was born out of my frustration with Servant Salamander's half-assed file list utility that wouldn't traverse subdirectories. I needed a list of files from a directory with over 300 subdirectories, so I sure as hell wasn't going to do each directory individually. Like some applications I've done before, this one has been beefed up more than what I originally required of it and is thus the perfect addition to one's utility program toolbox.


From the documentation:

File Lister is an advanced-user tool for making lists of files that can be worked with in other applications, such as file comparators or batch commands. It can also be used for simply indexing files for sharing or such. It offers the following major features:

• Full-featured, intuitive GUI
• Regular Expression matching (or basic wildcards matching)

This is most useful in multi-monitor setups, addressing a common oversight in some applications (mostly games) whereby they allow the mouse cursor to drift into other unwanted screens. In video games, this can also lead to minimizing the game window if the cursor has drifted into another screen and the mouse is clicked accidentally. Cursor Lock can also overcome cursor drifting problems in windowed applications and games.

I made this simple app as a replacement to using the blank screensaver when I'm leaving the computer (usually for the night). Instead of the monitor(s) eventually going to standby after a certain idle time, they'll go immediately when you run this program. This saves power (since I know I won't be back for awhile) and keeps the backlight glow from disturbing my sleep. When I say "simple app", I mean really simple, like 1 line of code simple. It takes a single function call to perform, but yet Microsoft couldn't be bothered to include this anywhere in Windows' interface. It actually took me more time to make the icon than to do the code.

Tip: If you put a shortcut to this program in your Start Menu somewhere, you can set the "Shortcut key" to whatever hotkey you want and use that to put the monitor(s) into standby.
