Demo Review

Well, unlike Loog, I only have one demo review to post about. It’s Star Trek: Bridge Commander. Check it.

Demos!!!

Who said all Loogie does is update staff pages and fix CGI?! Well, if you did, you’re wrong :) .

I just reviewed 3 top-notch demos: Clive Barker’s Undying, Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix (MP Test), and Anachronox

And, I’ve got one more on the way! By next week, I’ll have Freedom Force reviewed (I have to format and reinstall it first, my video drivers are queered up). Play those demos! 8)

tired of seeing the same post

goddamit, i’m tired of seeing the same damn news post everyday for a week….as one of the three loyal visitors i think i should get more bang for the buck i don’t pay. I’ve no relevant news, except thast gandalf has not been sufficiently entertained!

If you delete this post snake, replace it with something informative and witty, as per s–l tradition. Maybe if i had a job like Rach, I wouldn’t be sitting here whining…..but until that time, i am Gandalf.

“It’s a Golgothan!”
“A what?”
“An Excremental”
“huh?”
“A shit demon!”

Whatever happened to SLAP you with a trout?
Sweet,

Surge, Demo Review, Int, and Int

Friday and Saturday night, Loog brought The Wad over and we had a boom Surge beta test. I redid the old Surge pages; therefore, you can find more info about what happened there. That’s http://www.s–l.com/surge.

While we were connected, I got enough time to review the surpringly good C&C Renegade MP Demo. Read about it here.

Also, while we were surging, it became ever so apparent that something was fucked up with Loog’s video card; especially during the “and then it locked” portion of Friday night. Saturday, I had coaxed him into putting the Viper2 in again. Here’s the int thing: he put the GF4 back in today and everything is fine.

And Int.

Demo Review

Last night, I reviewed Operation Flashpoint. I think a lot of people overrate it, but I wouldn’t be so harsh as PCG’s 50%. You realistic FPS fans should definitely give it a try, but you’ll either like it or won’t. 😕

Tom’s, DBs, Win98 Updates…

I scanned over Tom’s Hardware Guide for the first time in a while yesterday. First of all, DDR-333 RAM is available now… if the chipset supports it, of course. The Intel i845 chipset now supports DDR RAM… only 266Mhz, though. Still, their article on 19 motherboards using this chipset shows it’s pretty badass. Because Socket478 is the new standard for Intel processors, you can use anything after the Northwood series in these… from 1.6-2.5GHz… and, because of the common BIOS options (backup TwinBIOS, monitoring, and huge voltage adjustment gaps), some of these mobos can even OC to 3GHZ+! A couple of things about the DDR: 4 memory “rows” are supported (a row being one side of a RAM module), and the max BW is over 500MB/s more than Intel’s former RAM, RDRAM. Most of these mobos have 6 PCI slots, 4X AGP, a CNR slot for expansions, 3 USB 2.0 ports, and an int feature that supposedly uses a security card put in a slot, kinda like DirecTV satellite receivers. Abit’s BD7-RAID, Gigabyte’s GA-8IRXP, and Soyo’s Fire Dragon won the compo. Finally, I found that USB 2.0 has a max BW of 480mbps (60MB/s)! That’s 40x faster than normal USB; 80mbps (10MB/s) faster than FireWire; and, according to a baud stat Snake found, 2,083x faster than original parallel ports.

I went and totally updated and converged 5 of our CGI scripts these past few days…

And, I just finished adding 2 entries (that’s a total of 19), and about 5 hotkeys, to the Win98 Tweak Guide.
