More Snipers

Yes, another news post with a subject beginning with “more”. And more is better. I fixed a small bug to do with mission objectives displaying in the scenario. But more importantly, I made a little (or not so little) trailer for the scenario so you can get an idea of the level of badass it is. It’s about two minutes long, Divx 6 video at ~800kbps and MP3 audio at 112kbps. I made it in a few hours in Vegas Video 5. It was recorded with Fraps. Click the screenshot to download it.

More new stuff.

As part of my recent emphasis on getting old projects out the door, finished or not, I’ve decided to release my Sniper scenario for Starcraft:Brood War. You may (or may not) remember it from some news posts a few years ago: here and here. There’s been an unfinished version on the site since when I first started working on it. This finished version however contains a complete readme (with walkthrough), briefing, script, end game, better balancing, and final objective. It’s a good challenge and has some awesome trigger implementation and badass dialogue. I’m hoping to work out a cooperative multiplayer version soon, so one player can control Quelog and the other Snake. Anyways, you can download it here.

I also added links to news items next to the subjects as you may have noticed, so I could link to the old news items in the post. 😉

Look for more liquidated projects soon. And BTW, the new Daemon Tools (4.0) is out. However, it doesn’t look like it’ll help with those pesky StarForce protected discs. I still have to restart to tell wtf it actually does change.

More CS Stuff

I’ve now added stats for my CS Server. It uses the community standard PsychoStats, of course. I’ve made a few modification, though. A few of them are available at the PsychoStats site, like CSS Small Weapon Images with Names, Dark Blue Mod, and of course the lovable ol’ James. You can find the stats here. And as always, the server is at xxxxxxxxx.xxxxxx.net:27015. I removed the little server applet thing from the previous CS post, but you can find server info on this page now.

Snake’s Top Tens

Top Ten Games
Games I’ve played more than once because they were so kickass. If you consider yourself a serious PC Gamer, you should definitely play these. Here they are in no particular order:

  • Max Payne (first game was better than second; I must have played it like 2-3 times; bullet-time still kicks ass)
  • No One Lives Forever 2 (both games are really good, but I like the second one cause it adds skills like Deus Ex; i need to play this again)
  • Deus Ex (oh fuck, I love this game; I’ve played it 9 times!)
  • Half-Life (it’s a fucking classic; I’ve played it like 4 times; way better than HL2; has some awesome mods, like TFC)
  • Rise of Nations (logged the most time playing this than any other game; perfect execution of RTS micro-management)
  • Unreal Tournament (all iterations; my favorite platform for free-for-all killing action; great mods)
  • Dungeon Siege (nice implementation of RPG gaming for non-hardcore types; I know Marcus played this several times, I played it twice)
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (I really dig the layout and retro feel of this GTA iteration compared to the others; played it three times)
  • Doom (classic killing; shareware is addictive stress reliever)
  • Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast (a close call, but I played it so many times, I had to add it; this is the way all the Jedi Knight games should have played)

Other close calls: Quake 2, Call of Duty, and Far Cry

Top Ten Album
Albums that I keep coming back to and everyone should give a listen if they like the genre. In no particular order:

  • Cake – Fashion Nugget (nice mix of big band and alt. rock; addictive lyrics)
  • Nine Inch Nails – The Downward Spiral (you haven’t lived until you’re heard this; industrial)
  • Prodigy – Fat of the Land (more electronica-based alt. rock and some ambient)
  • Rob D – Furious Angels (instrumental rock; strings and beats)
  • Ulrich Schnauss – A Strangely Isolated Place (straight electronica)
  • Way Out West – Intensify (very techno)
  • BT – Movement in Still Life (trance/techno, with some harder and more rock-like stuff)
  • Blue States – Man Mountain (I call it chill music, but it’s probably like lounge jazz/easy listening)
  • Space – Spiders (rare eurorock/electronica; addictive lyrics)
  • Delerium – Poem (new age; lovely vocals and beats)

Feel free to disagree with me on these, but keep it to yourself.

CounterStrike: Source Server

Vicky and I have been playing a lot of CS lately. To help alleviate my desktop from all the bots and server-side crap, I’ve set up the laptop to run the source dedicated server. It only has enough bandwidth for like 8 players (42kbps / 5kbps = 8players), but we fill it up to 12 players with bots and that works out for us most of the time. Sometimes a few other people will join, but most of them quit pretty soon when they realize it’s mostly bots. Or they get pissed cause I pwn the fuck out of them. Since I never actually take my laptop anywhere, I figured I’d just let the server run 24/7. It hardly uses any cpu and none when nobody is on it. Also, I have this site serving up the custom content downloads for the server, making it fast as fuck to dl new maps. And it uses the Mani Admin Plugin to allow nextmap voting and some other cool game tricks like unlimited grenades. Here’s a pic of the server running on the laptop, taken by the new webcam.

And one more thing…

There are a couple new, little apps on my VB Apps page. One is a data rate calculator so you can see how long it will take to transfer things over different mediums. The other is a convertor for decimal numbers to any base from 2 to 36, plus it shows the work. Screenies:
