Boom!!!

I said a couple of hours?? Well it’s only been a half-hour, and I got it done! This was incredibly easy to do, and all the drivers picked up w/out a hitch. nVIDIA GeForce2 GTS is in! Boom!

Bout

Ok…. Snake has asked me to put up news on a few things…. he is “gone”, I dunno where to, I guess for the weekend. Also, he has started working on a new Tweak Guide column. So far he’s done the memory tweaks for our motherboards, the Via VT6X4. U can see it here. Finally, I just went through and got screenshots from the SL Half-Life demo in 3 reses (resolutions), and Q3A in 4 reses. I also got FPS and a screen from B&W; I compiled all this into a rough table that I’ll put our my upcoming new-card column (that makes about 4 columns in the making). And now… I’m bout to pop the new VisionTek GeForce2 in. I’m a little disappointed w/ it: the fan is cheap, and there’s no driver CD. But I got the newest nVIDIA 12.41 official drivers and put them in a temp folder. So, I hope it goes well.. if so, I’ll put another entry up in a couple hours about how the installation went. BBL

A few miscellanous items: Upgrades, DAP, and Fan Switches

Not only is Loog getting a hardware upgrade, but I am as well. I purchased a Maxtor 40GB 7200RPM hard drive (which is from the DiamondMax 60 Plus line) from my favorite retailer, Comp-u-Plus. I also got a Logitech serial mouse for some split-screen Doom Legacy…sweetness. It’s not even my birthday, though, so I still may be looking at a new Plextor 12x10x32 CDRW soon (in which case there will be another hardware execution). Que’s hoping for a Digital Camera for his birthday in November. Meanwhile, there have been talks of a Motherboard/CPU/RAM upgrade for the Gandalf formerly known as Gandalf the Cock. Tis the season for new hardware, apparently.

I emailed Speedbit (guys that make Download Accelerator Plus) about a problem that has occured to me twice, where a download will get to 100% and not build the output. This is usually followed by a time-out and if the file is stopped and resumed it’s back to 0%. If this has happened to you, then it’s likely to happen again. In which case, you should heed the advice given:

If it happens you may try the following procedure:
Please right click the file and choose properties, then move to the connection page. Click each one of the “Simultaneous connections” and write down all the connection’s “Temp file” for this file. Copy those .TMP files from their original location to a different directory (folder). Then, re-download the file from the beginning (you will have to delete it from DAP first). Just after it starts to to download the file, stop the download, then right click on the file again and choose properties, move to the connection page, click each one of the “Simultaneous connections” and write down all the connection’s “Temp file” for this file. Now, rename the old .TMP files into the new ones that DAP has created and copy them back to their original location, you will be asked weather you whish to overwrite the .TMP files that already exist in that location, please confirm. Now, resume the file again, this should create the file correctly.

Regards,
SpeedBit Support.

They were suprisingly prompt in replying. I hope this helps someone in the future, including me.

Now for a little bit of gHETto-ness, the fan switches. While this case mod wasn’t totally successful, it does work to satisfaction. I can switch the super-loud 80mm fan off and on at appropriate times. Twas a bitch soldering with an ancient “Solder Sucker” to get the switch connections to hold. It was also a bitch making my gHetTO wire twist-ties, which consist of electrical tape and an inch of garbage twist-ties. Well, here’s a pic that shows it pretty well. I will have a full gheTTO write-up on this later.

There’s also a new version of Motherboard Monitor out, 5.09. Pick it up at TweakFiles.com

WadCard2, and Other Things

By Tuesday, I should have a brand new VisionTek GeForce2 GTS 32MB DDR video card. Sure, it’s not that great a manufacturer, but it’s all I could afford from eBay at this time. This will be the 2nd video card the Wad PC has had, and I may well write a column about it (or wait until Snake gets a new one and write a collaborative column). I will probably sell my Voodoo3, but chances are that won’t get much money (would u like it? E-Mail me).

So, what else?

  • I bought Black & White this week! It is totally badass, but it runs a little slow on my Voodoo.
  • So far I have painted one side panel of my PC dark green, and a floppy faceplate (bezel) black. It looks striped now, but I might recoat it all when I paint the rest, w/ a better sander. I also redid the logo on my PC, and removed a CDROM bezel for air. All that might become a gHEtTO column post soon.
  • I rearranged my desk setup and put my case on my desk (due to a suggestion from Snake)! Yep, it used to be on the floor, now it’s rested saefly on the right side of my desk, and it’s much less cluttered now. If I can, I’ll take a couple pics of it for the site once I get a camera w/ film.

Since I’m already doing news, I’ll report for some other ppl: Gr-Dragon is “poor #10” in Hyperiums…. Snake‘s playin Inf and Rogue Spear demo….
Gand’s in Governor’s School…. all of us go back to normal school Tuesday… i dunno about Que.

MOD Database Update

Today (after some extreme BS disputes w/Snake and his power) I updated the MOD Database a tad. Now any songs w/ (MR) in the songname get listed in the new Mick Rippon song search. I also modified some songs to be in the new Trax in Space search. I wouldn’t normally make a post out of something as insignificant as this, but I’m behind on updates for this… a LOT has been done since the original version. Snake also reviewed a few songs today. U can see the DB by clicking on “MODs” on the left nav frame (duh).
