Boom-tastic!

No, that is not (read not) a bomb threat for all you llamas that are watching our every move, so STFU. LOL, we love messing with you rets, because you’re so technologically impaired that you think everything on this site is a threat to the well-being of others. It’s a crying shame, but on with the boom!

I’m gonna attempt to do this in chronological order and hell, this may be the longest news post ever.

Monday, Loogie and I commenced in some fragalicious JDoom using our traditional modem peer-to-peer connection 8) (who needs TCP/IP when you live a mile from each other???). Anyways, this is now my favorite freakin port for Doom now. Not only is it absolutely beautiful but the multiplayer options are becoming better and better with each additional patch. The most recent eye candy that was added is the MD2 model support. This means that Doom while running in JDoom and with all the newest model packs is almost totally 3D. So, Loog and I played several of the later levels of Doom2 on Monday and then the following day, I had finally finish playing the entire Doom2 wad, proof below. If you just wanna gib some demons in single-player, JDoom is the way to go. Linkage Screenage:

If you can’t tell, I’m in a good mood. And hell, you would be too if you were Snake. As stated in my last post, I got a new burner and a TV card. Most of my time so far has been spent investigating the capabilities of this ATI TV Wonder card and it’s software. If you’ve got any sort of video that you’d like to input into your computer, get one of these cards now!!! They’re dirt cheap for everything you get. Of course, the quality isn’t as good as with a TV but it suits. I’ve been working with it and a VCR hooked to the composite for a couple days now and it’s really amazing. 😮 At 320×240, it can record real-time into Divx 4.11 compression. Well, there’s not a whole lot else to say about that. I was working with the camcorder the other day and made an exclusive Snake video but at 21MB even with Divx, it’s too large to upload :( Here’s some Screenage:

Next, I must pay homage to the Plextor 16/10/40 CD-RW. I burned a CD-RW on Thursday evening and was pretty impressed by the speed, and that was only at 10X (for the llamas, that’s the max rate for rewritable media). I burned 496MB of data in 6:10. I remember when burning an entire audio disc took like 45 minutes. Hell, now it’d only take 9. Once again, this particular drive is dirt cheap now that the 24X’s are out. Check out the TV card and burner at my boys’ site, Comp-u-Plus.

Now, here’s the funny shit. Last night (that would be Friday), both Loog and I’s rigs did some intense fucking up. I was trying to write this news post when it happened. My hard drive made a spin down sound and everything locked but the mouse cursor. I said the usual “what the fuck” and hit the restart button. I come back and holy hell, my screen is at 640x480x4 resolution. I tried the normal response to that kind of thing and reinstalled the Via 4.00 AGP GART and nVidia 21.81 drivers. It had no effect, so I just proceeded to back up everything important to the Slave Hard Drive (which IMHO, everyone needs) and formatted the Master at around 4 this afternoon. By 10, I had enough stuff installed to be officially operational. :) The last thing I installed was PowerStrip (great tool, pick it up).

Loog on the other hand, I dunno what exactly happened to his rig. He reinstalled Win98se (without a format 😡 ) and now about half of his programs don’t work still and the OS crashes every few hours. On top of that, he has about 600 files on his Hard Drive that are infected with the Chernobyl virus. All this because he didn’t just format. Loogie is a ret. Moving on.

Oh, hold up…that’s it. She-it, it’s 5:24….I’m ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz……………

New stuff.

I added a new POTM that Que sent me and…yeh, the random thing in the top frame. It provides both useful information and humor every time you visit. 😛

S&L – WE don’t even know what the “L” stands for anymore. LOL, I crack myself up. 8)

Starband and Games

For anyone who may be considering getting the StarBand satellite internet connection, there’s something you need to know first: You will not be able to play online games. The only proof you need is in this email I got in query as to my greatest concern.

Dear Snake,

Thank you for contacting StarBand technical support. StarBand customers see an average ping time of 700ms to 900ms. Again, thank you for your inquiry. If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact, or check out our website at www.starband.com.

Sincerely,
Jim

There’s a lot of other limitations to having a shitsucking ping, too, but gaming is the big blow. I figure most satellite services are no different, but at least they use the phone line for uploads. I’m sticking with the 56K goodness yet again. The StarBand tech support was really prompt, though.

On a cooler note, go check out the new video over at Tom’s. Linkage.

Holy shit, it’s December.

The subject has nothing to do with my actual posts, but I just happened to realize that it’s all like…December and shit. The last 2 days have been a daze, so I didn’t really catch it. Anyways, here we go…

I took the Demoboard code and rewrote a lot of it to accompany the new S&L Glossary a few nights ago. It took only about 5 hours to complete but I’m quite pleased with what it and myself are capable of doing. This time around it uses a common CSS file for a lot of the page properties and such, so it’s actually noticably faster when loading for you fellow 56Kers. Last time I looked there were 50 definitions already, so you can go check it out and may actually learn something here. I’ll add a link to it in the top frame once we reach 100 definitions.

I was poking around my favorite hardware sites today whilst eating and found some KT266A goodness. First off, I’m so fucking glad that Abit finally released their version of Via’s KT266A North Bridge Chipset, the KR7A. I was beginning to get worried that they wouldn’t make one…this mother fucker is on my list of things to get with Christmas dinero now. Check it out over at [H]ardOCP. Then, over at Tom’s Hardware Guide, they have a nifty roundup of 11 KT266A Mobos (excluding Abit’s offering of goodness, the KR7A) and 2 nForce Mobos. The Soyo SY-K7V and MSI K7T266 Pro2 look very swooby indeed, but I’m an Abit whore.

And finally, I’d like to announce that way too many llamas play DF3. This is not necessarily a bad thing, though, especially since I lag on every server like a cock sucking dick (no, I dunno what it means either, but it sounds bad). But come on, you don’t run straight for someone with a .50cal sniper rifle and expect to win. Here’s a sshot of the massacre:

Delta Force 3

I remember a time, back before TFC…before S&L, when we used to play Delta Force. What an awesome game it was. The expansive terrain, easy multiplayer setup, and the 12 or so weapons to choose from. It was a blast. Loog, Gandalf, and myself played it like every week for a month or two online.

Delta Force 3, though…it’s like all the things you wanted Delta Force to be. There’s about 3 times as many weapons, ambient surround sounds, high quality textures and other graphic effects (weather, explosions, etc.), even more multplayer modes, and of course it uses hardware acceleration finally. All the fun elements from the original are still present, too.

So, Loog and I got it from ol Morpheus (that fag Que with the DSL still has yet to) and have been playing around with the mission editor and some multiplayer this evening. I’ll just show you some quick screens from my map and the scoreboard. This could be my new Inf replacement. My reason for quiting Inf was because they changed the scoreboard (and some other stuff that I got too used to). Excuse me, dicks, but I’ve been fragging for 3 years and I like to know how many kills I’ve gotten versus everyone else. Games are games cause they’re competitive; I don’t play to suck my team’s dicks. And, that’s my statement on scoreboards. DF3 give you 2 points for a kill and 3 for a headshot…excellent!

Some shit

I beat Red Faction (Factino as Loog and I call it) yesterday, what a shitty ending. The Geo-Mod engine was cool, but it’s not worth getting the game for it; the demo shows you the true extent of it. I could see where it’ll be cool in multi-player, though. Time to beat: 9 Hours. I didn’t cheat like some editor did, either (cough..cough..Loogie..cough). Here’s a tip to beating the boss bitch (whatever her name is): Shoot her little faggot craft with the rail driver twice, then run for the nearest ladder and crouch in the rafters. It takes 4 fusion rockets to defeat her shield and only one rail to kill her. The bomb down the lift has a random code, so just be really fucking fast.

OK, second and last thing: Darkhalo…this mother fucker is cool. 8) His site has awesome music and awesome digital artwork. I haven’t downloaded one mp3 (made in a tracker, though) that wasn’t excellent in some way. May I recommend succubus remix and moonlight embrace. The address is http://www.newelement.org/josh.
