She-it…it’s Friday and there’s absolutely no one online. I’m serious…not a person. Loog went to play dod, which is what I’m imagining Que is doing, too…Gandalf ran away an hour ago and I’m pretty sure Dragon is dead. Of course, the ladies flocked to me, but that’s not the point, it’s NEWS TIME!!!

Not much happened this week that’s news worthy, but Snake will as always cook up a hot plate of tech dookie for your nerd pleasure:

  • Finally, Tweak3D has some good articles up. I thought the guide on How to Build a Server was pretty good, albeit a bit boastful (half of the friggin thing is about all the fancy parts they bought for their server). I did find the 11th page on RAID interesting, tough.
  • Another beautiful Ghetto Burning at Icrontic. This time they wasted a Game Boy, old modem, Super Orb, Intel 10/100 NIC, and Matrox M3D. There’s nothing more interesting than seeing what a melted Game Boy looks like.
  • Let’s face it, us bitches at S&L love Vantec HSFs. Loog and I have a D5030 on our Pentium3s and Que has a 6040 on his T-Bird. When I read about the new all copper socket 6035D, I was excited to know that Vantec is still producing excellent units that even come close to matching the ThermoEngine’s score. There are several reviews around, but [H]ardOCP always does it best.
  • And finally, has anyone seen this shit happening with DirectX 8.1b? Apparently, some sites got a hold of a leaked beta release. Of course, Microsoft got pissed at them all and asked to remove it or else. There are a few examples here, here, and here. I read that it fixes about 320 bugs and should increase performance for most people and obviously better compatibility. An official release from Microsoft will be out within the month (or that’s Snake’s guess).

I’m pretty content now that I got the Serious Sam demo running on my Viper2. There’s artifacts everywhere, but at least I didn’t get texture drop-outs like Loog’s Voodoo3. Nice demo…I’ll have it reviewed by Friday next week. As well as some other demos: Alice, Diablo 2, Real War, and Operation Flashpoint. Loog, if you want, you can review Alice.

Absolute last thing…I’m pretty much done with my internet project for school. Naturally, I hosted the site here…it’s kinda like a superlarge Column, so that’s where I put it. It’s a “WebQuest” on the Gladiators and Arenas of Ancient Rome. Hey, you might learn something! Check it out.

Extreme absolute last thing…check some more of my Infiltration character models. The first is the magnificent, all-mighty, badass Snake! and the second is a somewhat male-ish Tyler (hey, there aren’t any female player models!). Except for the missing glasses, my model is very accurate; and Ty’s eyes umm…come kinda close. She frags with a vengeance, though! I had a better shot of Que’s model, but can’t find the sucker. Oh well, this is Snake saying: “Shitdis, Bitches! I’m playin’ dod with Quedog!”

3:30am – “Wow! Day of Defeat sucks some extreme ass! I’m going to play Infiltration on {SOB}Houston Server.”

It’s been a hell of a long time since I have made a news post, but what can I say? I’m lazy as hell! Anyways, as you could have guessed, only a series of important or exciting events could motivate me to make a news post, so here’s the story.

The Viper Incident
It all started Saturday when snake got an e-mail from a person who claimed to be “Mike Kellar,” and who called himself “Viper.” He claimed to be a gamer who heard of S&L through Sectorlink, our Web Host. It all seemed a little fishy, and the e-mail itself sounded phony. Us sexy bitches down here at S&L know when shit’s goin down, so Snake looked into it and found out that it is actually impossible for a person to hear of us that way. Since we have gotten our new domain, we havent given out our URL in games simply because we aren’t recruiting right now, so the only way a person could have gotten the URL would be if they knew us for a long time and read about the change on the old site. Who of those few people would try to lie to us and infiltrate the clan? Why an old enemy, of course! But why? We don’t even play against any of them anymore! It was determined that it was probably a specific person, who we shall call “NiggaFly TNT [ED NOTE: Snakes making me use this funky name],” who has tried this exact thing before.
Acting quickly, Snake put me in charge of the mission to find out just exactly what the hell was going on. I named it “Operation Viper.” At first I decided to try guessing his secret question for Hotmail, because then I could see how old the account was, and thusly if it had been made recently and just for the purpose of fooling us, and also so that i could see if his letters matched his identity. Unfortunately, you need an Area Code to even see the question. His MSN info was, of course, blank. Later that night (actually, early the next day,) i got in ICQ to check my messages, and saw that “Viper” had added me to his/her contact list! There wasn’t much on his ICQ info… except for his Area Code. As soon as i had it, it occurred to me that it was actually best to use the Area Code to see where he lived, and if that matched where he said he lived (North Carolina.) Of course, it didn’t. After a few mins of searching and stuff, I found out that the area code was in Georgia.. conveniently close to where “Niggafly TNT” had said that he went to college, during the first incident. So, we see that “Niggafly TNT” was lying about how he heard of us, lying about where he lived, and had an area code that put him where the guy from the first incident lived. I mailed all of the evidence to Snake, in a formal report, and went to bed.
The next day I got on my chat programs a little later that normal because I wanted to avoid having to talk to “Viper” without Snake or Loog around. When I did get on, it was revealed to me that Loogie had spilled the beans- he let “Viper” know that we knew. Apparently, Loogie had gathered further evidence: he had asked “Viper” if he was “NiggaFly TNT,” but it had been his sister, and he said that he would be on in a few mins. Still, Snake and I had wanted to collect all of the information and be sure, and then play along with “Viper” and hopefully gain our revenge. In the end, it is my opinion that Loogie ruined the plan. “Viper” admitted that he was indeed “NiggaFly TNT,” and said that he would never bother us again.

New Ranking System
In other news, Snake and I have just completed a new Ranking System for the clan. It’s a hell of a lot more complicated than the old system, and after we work out all of the bugs and stuff, it should work as an excellent system for all of the FPS games that we play. Not really much to say about this new breakthrough development, so click here and have a look for yourself… or, if you prefer, you can download it.

Nothing to report, really. I’ve been busy trying to actually pass my classes and too many things are on my mind to do any site work. I did redo the downloads section two days ago, though. It includes a buttload of 16×16 icons to unclutter the table as well as providing more information on the actual downloads. I added Trig’s 6 month old TFC training map and 4 of my own Starcraft scenarios.
Another big deal is what Loog and I are planning to do for the Fourth of July…pack his Packard Bell POS full of fireworks, smoke bombs, and maybe some gasoline (for added flamage) and light that motha up! There is sure to be a pictorial for that soon after July 4th. Badass…
New Infiltration patch is out…2.85.5. Snag it here; only 12MB. The coolest additions would have to be the FN P90 and the distance sounds, but see the latest INF News for the full list of features. Here’s a few screens I captured while playing for a couple hours today; featuring the P90 and the bot appearances of the S&L Staff:

Que and Gr-Dragon are off from school for the Summer. I wish I could say they were doing more with this new free time, but they aren’t. Lazy bitches…oh well, we’ll just have to wait and see what they will cook up. Snake is tired and has way too much work to do tomorrow. So, without further ado, I give you…

May 26, 2001 #2

A LOT of things have happened with me in the past 3 weeks. So I’ll try to keep this as condensed as possible.

The first topic is: I AM THE MASTER OF THE 56K!!! How many of you with 56k modems on normal ISPs out there are frustrated because you get disconnected so often? Well this was not a problem for me: I decided to go for broke and leave my PC on, connected, for as long as possible. I used my trusty and incredibly stable SupraSonic II modem, the local ISP, and of course stable Wad for this test. I saved screenshots of my connection window every so often and chatted about it on AIM. Well, below this is the final proof. I had to shut down my PC after AIM crashed (and Explorer had done about 5 fake-restarts and was having severe window button blips)… after being connected nonstop, at 48kbps, for 8.9 days.

Loogie says: i swear to god, the people at hovac died

Next, I finally beat DiabloII in Normal mode, as a Level 27 Amazon. When we have our 2001 Game Awards Column, D2 will most likely be getting very high accolades. I did take a number of screenshots while playing, but I don’t feel like compiling them onto this news entry.. maybe another day.

Weird Shit is the next topic. Please gaze over the following 3 screenshots from GameSpy and AIM that I found really weird. To save space on this entry, I put the descripts as mouseovers on the images.

I went to Snake’s yesterday for about 5 hours for pics for my next Column… all about computer mice. We used his (his dad’s.. shh) digital camera and took about 14 pics of anything I owned even remotely related to a mouse, and there’re still more pics to come. The column will be done within 2 weeks. We also shot BBs at a can and a milk jug {insert own comment here} for a bit. Fun.

My additions/revisions to the site lately have been totally redoing the POTM and fixing parts of my Staff Page. I have also lately been busy updating a couple of Angelfire sites for people I know.

There’s probably more that I’ve done, but I can’t think of it right now…

I took a bunch of digital pictures in the last week despite a ruling that I shouldn’t use it. Well, I say bullshit in your face! Anyways, here’s a picture of this badass motha…I took it in the bathroom mirror. The second picture is how it would look in actuality.

That looks phat…1.3 Megapixels; it isn’t the best, but it works. I also learned how to make tea today, interestingly enough. Here’s a couple of pics of my tea masterpiece.

I’m gonna be doing a shit-load of demo reviews, soon. The review for Hitman: Codename 47 is already up. Special thanks to Tyler for the tea! And hey, check out her “art” here. Snake needs to now burn up some pics for tomorrow. Shitdis, bitches! I’m out!

I got a lot of work (and some play) done in the last 3 days. I won’t tell you about all of it, but there are 4 big points that I want to bring up:

  1. We will be having a new Contributing Editor very soon. He’s been playing Counter-Strike, Firearms, and Team Fortress Classic with us for about three weeks and is a reasonably good player. His knowledge of web development should prove useful this summer. I’m speaking of course about Gr-Dragon (AKA: Bleys[Editor’s note: Blaze]) and you should see his staff page up in the near future.
  2. I just finished another sorta small Column last night. Besides my GheTtO Hardware Column, this should be the start of a new section purposefully to enlighten all the llamas in this world that don’t understand the true gamer’s lifestyle.I encourage all S&L editors to contribute their own version of “Inside S&L”. Anyways, enter Snake’s World
  3. We all know Quelog, right? Sure we do, he’s been a fixture at S&L for what seems like forever…but really, it’s been one year (and three days). When we realized this, something had to be done to commemorate Que on being loyal for an entire year. So what did we do? PLAYED TFC!!! All the usual active members showed up and we rocked for 2 hours on some of our special favorite maps: well (map we met Que on), cz2 (map we recruited Que on), 2fort (cause everyone loves 2fort), and crossfire (S&L can never suck on crossfire). S&L…Always…Quelog Rock on, dog!
  4. And following up on our development of a temporary practice server, I have parsed and uploaded all the logs from our TFC Tests and last night’s party. They can be found here now and forever. We use AEstats to parse and construct the html. All “Player”s that join the server will be given the prefix [LLAMA] on the rankings.
