I had some problems with uploads, so this was the only one I could get up so far: 11071108.exe

Well, after hours of waiting in line and trying tens of different servers I finally got my hands on a copy of CS 1.3 and HL 1.1.0.8. The new scoreboard on CS is pretty swooby, but I’m sure a lot of people will be disappointed with the removal of Bunny-Hopping (I heard it was a server variable?). Well, I’m gonna see if I can get a copy of the new CS and HL up for you guys to DL (an S&L exclusive, decent DL speed for the new CS!).

I feel it wrong to go to sleep w/out adding to Snake‘s news entry a bit.

• Internet Explorer 6.0 came out about 2 weeks ago.

  Noticeable changes: New webpage icons; better picture-saving system; download window changed; Media Search icon added to toolbar

• TweakUI v1.33 is out- not sure how old? Maybe months old, but I just re-got it for the first time in about a year, and there are a lot of new features. Get it!
• Sonique v.1.95– working equalizer, few crashing bugs fixed

Oh my god, TweakFiles closed!!! 😡 I loved that site, it had everything that anyone could ever dream of downloading for tweaking. If you don’t wanna have to click the link, here’s their statement about why they closed:

Tweak Files is now officially closed… Our parent company, C|Net, has decided to close the doors to this website. The move is strictly due to the lack of money coming in from Internet advertising and the strong cost of ftp sites.

I’m in the process of making a Download Database. It should have links to download all of our favorite tweaks and other apps.

Also, if you live in a hole, Counter-Strike 1.3 is out, aswell as a Half-Life patch. I gotta redo the S&L timedemo, damnit!

That’s right, bitches! Ive got a badass new pic! And i fixed my FDD!

The pic is actually a school picture- there is this option where you can get a copy of your image on a disk. The pics came out today, and mine was pretty good! Since I dont have my dcam yet (damn it all!) and my sisters scanner locks my system (damn it all to hell!) this was really my only way to get a new pic of myself. Fortunate that it turned out so good! In order to get this new image onto scorp, I had to fix my FDD.

Yea, so, my FDD has been non-functional for the entire life of ScorpII. I guess I zapped the drive when assembling the rig, or maybe I had it in wrong or something (entirely possible, since my FDD cable isn’t keyed with a notch, and I wasnt sure about whether or not to reverse it, because it was an old cable and an old drive.) Its wierd, though, because it worked well enough with my boot disk when I was first working on ScorpII, and it worked in ScorpI. At first, I really didnt care, because I was so happy to have my rig working at all (see the still-yet-to-be-written Scorpion II column about that.) A little while after the rig was working, I decided to try to fix the FDD. I had 5 floppy drives (I didnt know which ones worked, or if any worked,) 2 FDD cables (do those work?,) and 2 different orientations of cable to worry about. Long story short: I couldnt get anything to work! What a bummer! So, after a few attempts to fix it over the last few months, i finally got pissed off last week and decided to fix it once and for all. After some testing, I was able to find one that worked (actually, the only one that worked.) I thought that i’d fixed it. But alas! It was a funky old drive, so it wasnt made right to fit inside of a modern case- the built-in floppy-front on the bezel had a button that didnt contact the drive, because the button on the drive is flat (the plastic-cap button slides into it.) I put on the plastic-cap tab-like button into the drive and put it back into the drive cage. It worked! The disk would go in and eject properly. So i fired it up. But, damnit, it wouldnt read! I took it apart again, and the drive worked fine! After a few days consideration, I decided that the problem was the position of the drive in the cage, as it related to the bezel. It was too far back in the case, so when you put in a disk and tripped the mechanism that lowers the disk into the reading platform, it didnt go all the way down, because part of the disk was still sticking out of the drive, over part of the bezel. It wouldnt lower into the mechanism properly. It was a type of jam, and very unfortunate, because it was such a minor one. It was too far back in the case, because that button-tab was too long! A few days later (today) I finally got my lazy ass around to fixing it. I was gonna grind down the button-tab or something, but in the spirit of ghetto simplicity, i just bent part of the metal on the drive (the flat part, onto which the button-tab connected. It was parallel to the ground. I used some pliers to make it horizontal ) Success! I put it in and sure enough, it works! After months of a bunk drive, i had finally fixed it!

So, I got the new image onto my system without a hitch. It looked pretty goddamn good! When i showed it to Snake, he decided to touch it up a little. Now the picture is the most badass representation of Quelog yet created by man or machine! Congratulations and thanks to Snake! Ok, I’ve got a bunch of assorted updates:

Last night, I installed a new Hard Drive: Snake‘s old Western Digital 5.1 from the POS Packard Bell. It’s pretty good though, considering it’s 3.5 years old. I’m using it for backups and the files for this site. When I installed it first, I got a big problem w/ my video drivers, but now they’re ok. And speaking of video drivers, nVIDIA’s newest reference driver, v21.81, is out @ their site. These are extremely stable.

What else… I got Mr. Roboto mp3 yesterday, it’s great (thanks to hearing it @ Snake‘s house). Big Daddy was right: “Styx was one of the greatest American rock bands, but they caught a bad rep cause most critics are cynical assholes.”

Physical news: 2/4 panels of my case are painted beautifully, and I put a lot of custom stickers on the front. Also on the MOD front, I put a gheTTo-style fan in the lower front bay area and hooked it up to fan3 header, to suck air in. I moved my VCR to hook up to my sound card for recording more easily, so I may have some good movies segments up for download soon.
