Demo review, Trillian, etc.

I finally reviewed a demo again!!! Snake said I should add some content to the site instead of going around fixing code like I have been. So, I reviewed Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza… I’m not gonna bother showing the screens here, see for urself.

Also site-related, we’ve finally finished… uh, fixing code… and so, we’re almost ready to make our next column(s)! :) Snake had the idea to make another Best of Gaming, so expect to see that soon. We also may make a column w/ help of Quelog about our common GF2 upgrades.

Yesterday and today, I rearranged my room’s PC/TV corner… got printer-TV-DVD-VCR-Satellite cart on the left, eating tray behind it, trashcan under it, joysticks dangling on tray, and PC in front and to the right 8) . I think that beats the recent room upgrade Snake made.

The rest of my news comes from things I learned about on TechTV today. First, they were talking about a program that combines IM apps into one, but for the MAC… so then I learned about Trillian. U’ve probably heard about it, but it’s a very nicely made program (got 93% user satisfaction @ download.com) that does MSN/AIM/ICQ/IRC/Yahoo into one. It takes about 2 hours to completely set up though. Also, I can’t use it for AIM, because those fags at AOL are in some battle w/ Trillian to keep users off through it. This SS is using the Odigo III user-made skin, from their site. I had to resize my buddy list window a LOT to get this SS to fit w/out needing a bigger pic:

Finally, I found this from going off of something else TechTV said: they were doing a caller’s help thing about how to make ur Control Panel cascade on ur start menu (like llamas like Snake like to do), and they gave a link to annoyances.org, a site that tells you how to fix a collection of Windows things like that. I found one that lets you change the text and icon of ur start menu button! 😛 Since I hardly ever the start menu anyway (I use TopLaunch), I named my button something stupid. Here it is:

Oh, and be careful doing this.

Happy Presidents’ Day… or something.

Huge site updates

Ok, so… today, Snake and I did a LOT of minor-major changes to the site. Most noticeable is of course the nav u see to the left, which Snake finally made w/ Flash (get it if u don’t have it, and make sure u aren’t using a really old version of IE, or some other unsupported browser). It has sounds when u “tree” down, and sublinks. For the columns nav submenu, the 5 most popular are listed.

Also, I went through and made the editors page, the most recent archived news page, and all of the columns universal (w/ CSS, colors, backgrounds, etc.), and Snake made it so that now, whenever u go to a column in a whole browser, it hops inside the top and nav frames, to the main frame. Magic! Naw, just JavaScript. I updated my CS column, too.

This was all more complicated than it sounds, but once u finish doin all of it, it’s just the BOOM of the day 8) .

Almost a month!!!

Ok, I last posted on the 28th of December of last year… and I have a lot of assorted things to go over. Here goes:

I guess the most foremost and site-consequential is the new contract. Snake got a form program and typed up a formal paper for every member of the clan (a special one for me) that will clear up all past discrepancies about whatever. I can’t go into detail, for possible breach of the contract, but it’s definitely int.

Also site-consequential: I got Netscape! I didn’t want to do it, I swear… I had to cause IE’s been gayin (lockin) a lot lately. They aren’t that much different, and u can set up Netscape to be almost the same as IE. It stores temp files in WindowsTemp and not the TIF; it has a nicer way of downloading files; u know, the usual. But this gave me an inside look into how Netscape users see our site! We’ve always said our site’s for IE users, and that still remains true… because of a couple things: Netscape doesn’t support “bgproperties=fixed” (text scrolling and not moving the background); the topframe’s JavaScript doesn’t work right w/ it; it creates white borders around a lot of things; and the scrollbar color can’t be changed. That’s about all.

A month ago, I got a new printer/scanner/copier combo! U may have seen it on QVC: the Lexmark X73. It’s amazing. Scans full pages in 20 seconds tops (my old scanner took 8 minutes), and prints nicely. Great software.

I was gonna show u my badass new IE top bar w/ Hotbar, but I have Netscape now :( . However, another topbar-kinda-thing: Windows’ toplaunch. Snake and I each have one, but now mine’s 2 bars wide:

CS news: I still play on Hot Cinnamon, as does Gr-Dragon (and Que played yesterday)… but I’m not in the stats cause they never reset. Gr is currently #65, lol. I have been going about skinning everything in the game (from cs-skins.net)… all I have left is 5 player models, 2 grens, 3 pistols, the sig550, VIP, and helicopter. I’ve been planning an incredible screenshot involving my Gumby chicken, Gr, Que, and a hostage in a group pose. But I’ll get that on here next post.

Tom’s Hardware Guide has come out w/ some great articles recently… one about CPU cooling systems, and a roundup of GF3 TiX cards. Sharky’s hain’t come out w/ much lately, cept they reviewed our boy Max Payne.

And now, THE BIG JUMBLED NEWS SWIRL! 😛 … I made a new Darkhalo CD, and put labels and inlets for the Darkhalo CDs that would put MicroSoft’s holographic Windows CDs to shame. Maybe when our company starts, I can mass-produce these; new version of Aimster came out, that doesn’t crash all the time (they now call it “Madster”); Blizzard.com just held the official WarCraft3 beta signups… Snake and I signed up, they choose like 50 I think; the artist Future Sound of London 0wnz j00… look @ Darkhalo’s “pretty” musical inspiration page here for some of his songs to get on Aimster; school’s gettin easy. I have the exact same schedule next semester as this semester, except for one class.

And for closing, here’s the funniest thing I came across lately:

Snake– i love snake!! says:
que is not prononced cue in any fucking language cept for ret

Out.

Back into the swing of CS…

Ok, so I’m finally all unvirused and ready for gaming again. The game I missed the most was CS, so I re-DLed it & got all my backup files back in. Yesterday, after Bleys and I played on a couple servers he likes but I lag badly on, I searched and found 5 new servers to look through. Today, I had started a table to put on here listing attributes of each server, but I found that most of them sucked. I even got banned from one server just cause my ping was too high! 😮 One server, called “|BSS| Bitch Slap Squad” is good, because I get great ping to it, but noone’s ever on it (which could be an advantage, cause we can use it for clan practices).

But anyway, one server stands high among the rest. The “TFR Hot Cinnamon” server (the Task Force Ranger clan) gives me great ping (and remember, I have a 56k), has stats (Psycho stats, like GD had), has a very nicely designed site (TFRclan.com), and has cool people. The downside, though, is that it has a curse ban. The max players is 24, and there are a total of 33 maps (though 6 of those are custom ones that I can’t seem to be able to DL from their site). The IP is:

oO0º° 207.19.97.111:27016 °º0Oo

Hot cinnamon for x-mas! Int.

i845 reviews, new hardware, XMas

Here’s something int… Snake sent me a URL to Toms Hardware’s article of new chipsets for the P4. They compared Intel’s new and newly-leased i845 & i845D to other chipsets by our boy Via and SiS. All of these chipsets are made for mobos using DDR RAM w/ Intel’s P4 CPU. Up until now, only Intel mobos had the i800 series. Tom’s doesn’t really like the i845D… its RAM speed is beat by SiS’, and it’s kinda slow in OpenGL.

Just now, I went to SharkyExtreme and found a similar article, reviewing just the i845… and they loved it; it scored an 8.5. That’s the int part… but anyway, I learned something from Sharky’s review: AGP2X cards and mobos aren’t supported by the i845 or i850. In fact, if you try to use an AGP vid card in 2X mode (as Snake and I’s are set to currently), the mobo might become very badly damaged. We probably won’t be getting this chipset when we upgrade our mobos/CPUs… Abit’s KR7A-Raid looks very nice (it uses the KT266A chipset included in Tom’s review).

Hmm, what else… I just got a nice Philips 12Xx8Xx36X burner… it’s a bit slow, compared to others like Snake‘s, but I love it… it looks sleek, and using Nero w/ it works like a charm. I also got a GE DVD/CDRW/MP3 player… quite nice, though a bit useless. Too bad S&L Computers couldn’t start up yet… I’m itchin to build somethin 😛 .

It’s Christmas!!!

µhhhhhhhh… oh, and my microwave blew up.

Amazing!!!!!!!

Both Snake and I’s PCs just died… that’s right. I’m barely able to type this. We both have to reinstall Windows (gay Microsoft and its XP tryin to overtake 98), and Snake might have to format. And this is just after Snake got his Plextor burner and TV card and was watchin extensive TV for the first time in years.

SHE-IT.

[Editors Note: Holy crap! I guess the happiness of the holidy season doesnt apply to us. Since im by default, like, in charge.. um.. erm.. get me some chicks! And where’s that sandwich boy??]
